In the early sixties a local businessman Henry Cohen raised the possibility of constructing a yacht harbor at Brighton. A consortium of banks and pension funds backed the project and after two public enquiries an Act of Parliament (The Brighton Marina Act) was passed to enable construction to commence. The plan was to build a huge yacht marina with adjacent residential and leisure buildings on the land which was to be reclaimed from the open sea.

Work began on the construction of what was to become Europe's largest marina in the winter of 1971 and in the Autumn of 1978 the marina was open to the first boats. HM the Queen performed the opening after touring the Outer Harbour by boat with HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

This well established Marina is the largest in the UK, and now enjoys the benefits of an extensive Marina refurbishment, which included a comprehensive installation of the Mainstar utility monitoring and control system.

Over a two-year period of phased installations 124 Mainstar Electronic Control Units and 5 Mainstar Routers together with sundry 2 and 4way Energy Sensors and Mains.VB6™ utility monitoring and control software was installed.
Further enhancements to the Mainstar system installed at Brighton Marina included an upgrade to Mains.NET™ that has enabled multiple entry points into their Mainstar system to be located around the Brighton Marina complex.

Residents and visitors of Brighton Marina now derive many benefits from the use of Mainstar and are safe in the knowledge that the will only be charged for the utilities that they use.
